dogs on bikes?

July 12th, 2010 by justcat

If anyone has any ideas about a basket that will hold a 16 lb. Westie terrier, please let me know. I would love to take her for a bike ride! The ones I see online are not big enough. Any thoughts from cyberland out there? Let me know!

Nice fireworks

July 5th, 2010 by justcat

I rode to the river (near Kendall) and it was very easy getting there. Lovely fireworks (though a little shorter this year, I think! Budget cuts, maybe?). Getting home through the crowds however, was a little more hairy! I was pleased to see how many people had helmets and lights, but displeased to see how many didn’t! No brain, no headaches, I guess. Oh, and drunk, too, so maybe they thought they’d bounce…

Interested in being IN a cycling film?

June 25th, 2010 by justcat

Head down to the Newton City Hall War Memorial in Newton Center this Saturday at 9 am. Or if you’re from J.P., meet at Bikes Not Bombs on Amory at noon. You can be part of a music video that may be submitted later this fall to the BBFF. Nathan Aronow has a link to the rough cut of the music, but I can’t get the link to work! You may be able to find it by going to www.aronowmusic.com Or just show up and you too can be a star 🙂

You can meet David Herlihy on June 24th

He’s the author of The Lost Cyclist. He’ll be at the Boston Public Library at 6 p.m. The book is about an ambitious rider whose planned ride around the world ended suddenly when he disappeared mysteriously in Turkey. This book has been exhaustively researched, and I can’t wait to read it!

Bike Week? Bike Month!

May 26th, 2010 by justcat

Hoping everyone logged a lot of miles last week for Bike Week, but it’s not over yet. There are still a whole bunch of events – a celebration of bikes at Flattop Johnny’s on Wednesday and the annual Redbones extravaganza on Monday the 7th! I didn’t get out there as much during the week, but Sunday was a fabulous riding day and there were so many people out on bikes! Now if you were out there and filming riders, maybe you could parlay that into a film suitable for the 6th annual BBFF… Waiting for that segue, weren’t ya? Come Pedal Your Film!

Very exciting films await you…

May 22nd, 2010 by justcat

…but you have to wait until October 🙁

Seriously though, I am very excited about the caliber of films we’ve received thus far. From animation within a film, to a film with no people, to a story about a trip around the world (and no, not ala B52s “Roam”). I think everyone is going to be very excited and surprised!

I’ll send a few teasers on the web site soon!

Boston’s First Bicycle Safety Summit 4/21/10

April 21st, 2010 by justcat

If you care about the safety of you and those around you, whether cycling, walking OR driving, please plan to attend the mayor’s first ever Bicycle Safety Summit on Wednesday, 4/21/10 at 5:30 p.m. at Morse Auditorium at B.U. There are sure to be important ideas shared and you can effect change – in fact, it’s the only way to effect change – in this city!

The first couple of films are in for the 6th annual BBFF. Hope the quality continues. Come Pedal Your Film! Submission deets are at www.bostonbikefilmfest.org. And support Bike Night May 15th (great way to start Bike Week) back in Boston this year. We do!

6th Annual Boston Bike Film Festival!

March 28th, 2010 by justcat

With Spring rearing its green lil head (despite the frigid temps), I’m happy to see so many people out and about on their bikes. Does make one feel healthy! Another healthy thing to think about is the upcoming BBFF Call For Entries (not the smoothest of segues, but….) 2010. If you know of anyone, or are yourself an aspiring filmmaker, please think about submitting a film to our 6th annual event this fall. It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s for a good cause: cycling advocacy groups in greater Boston, like Mass Bike and Bikes Not Bombs! Every little bit helps. Deets are on the web page, which has been updated (except for our logo – they’re working on it!) with the new dates. So, what are you waiting for? Come Pedal Your Film!!
